Overnight Vision Correction

Overnight Vision Correction (OVC)

Invision Optometric Center is one of the few optometry orthokeratologypractices certified to provide Overnight Vision Correction. This treatment also known as orthokeratology (Ortho-K) or corneal refractive therapy (CRT) is a revolutionary, non-surgical process that reshapes the cornea of the eye by using contact lenses to improve or totally fix your eyesight.

If you are short sighted and would like to be spectacle free and contacts-free during the day, but do not qualify for laser treatment, OVC may be the perfect alternative. OVC is a safe and easy alternative to LASIK vision correction for treatment of myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), presbyopia (need for readers and multifocals) and astigmatism. OVC may also be a good option if you suffer from dry eyes as it has been found that this condition is sometimes worsened by LASIK.

The treatment works by using customized reverse geometry contact lenses to flatten the cornea. After the contact lens is removed, the cornea retains its flattened shape and a retainer lens is prescribed to maintain the corneal shape.

Invision Optometric’s eye doctor¬†is an expert in applying OVC treatment. The eye doctor will first examine your eyes and determine if you are a candidate for OVC. If you are green lighted to proceed with the treatment, the optometrist will measure the curvatures of your corneas using an instrument called a corneal topographer, a painless procedure that takes about a minute and produces a topographical map of your eye’s surface. The doctor will then work with you to fit the lenses properly, ensuring that the contact lenses will gently reshape the surface of your eye while you sleep. This will enable you to see clearly the next morning when you remove the lenses.

Overnight Vision Correction is an FDA approved treatment to improve eyesight and reduce dependance on prescription eyeglasses. The procedure can be performed on practically anyone of any age, as long as their eyes are healthy. OVC has gained popularity as an inexpensive and effective alternative to LASIK surgery while offering similar benefits. The procedure is also perfect for people who participate in sports, or who work in dusty, dirty environments that can cause problems for regular contact lenses and those who are too young for laser surgery.

According to an FDA clinical study undertaken for approval of OVC/CRT, 93 percent of patients achieved 20/32 vision or better, and 67 percent achieved 20/20 or better. In the clinical study for FDA approval of one lens design, about 95 percent of individuals achieved 20/40 or better, and 73 percent achieved 20/20 or better. Both studies followed patients over at least a over a nine-month period.
