California state law requires that all elementary school children receive an eye exam to check for possible vision problems. Children who need eyeglasses often suffer headaches and sometimes dizziness, resulting in poor grades and a dramatically lower education quality. According to the American Optometric Association (AOA) 25% of children in school may require eyeglasses or contact lenses due to poor vision. Pediatric doctors advise that children receive their first vision exam at 6 months of age, at 3 years of age, and another eye exam before they enter the first grade.
